Case Overview

This order was for a customer in Melbourne, Australia. They needed 85 rolls of 1/2" × 1/2" welded wire mesh, BWG19, in a 20-foot container. The rolls were about 1.2 m wide and weighed around 18 kg each.

The main concern for this shipment was surface protection. These rolls were going to be stored in a warehouse for a few weeks before installation, so the customer asked us to wrap each roll individually. We used plastic film and added a layer of woven fabric on the outside to prevent scuffing during handling.

Loading Arrangement

Loading 85 rolls into a 20-foot container requires some planning. We placed the heavier rolls at the bottom and lighter ones on top, staggered the positions so they fit snugly against each other, and used wooden supports at the door end to stop the rolls from shifting.

The entire loading took about 2.5 hours, including checking each roll's wrapping and counting the total quantity. The customer's agent at the Melbourne port later confirmed that all rolls arrived in good condition and were moved into storage the same day.

What Worked

Individual wrapping took more time than bulk wrapping, but it helped protect the surface and made unloading easier. Each roll could be moved separately without damaging the others. The customer has placed two more orders since this shipment, using the same packaging method.

Container Loading of Large Wrapped Wire Mesh Rolls

    Rotterdam, Netherlands

    Galvanized Welded Mesh Rolls (2" × 2", 2.5mm)
  • Quantity:
    32 Rolls / 1 x 40' Container
  • Packaging:
    Reinforced Protective Wrapping
  • Loading:
    Full-Container Floor Arrangement

Case Overview

This shipment went to a distributor in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The order was for 32 large rolls of 2" × 2" galvanized welded mesh, 2.5 mm wire. Each roll was about 1.8 m wide and weighed roughly 45 kg. They were too large and heavy to be handled by one person, so we needed to plan the packaging and loading accordingly.

The rolls were pre-wrapped with heavy-duty plastic film, then covered with an extra layer of woven fabric. The distributor told us the rolls would be stored outdoors at their yard before distribution, so we used thicker wrapping than we normally would for indoor storage.

Loading Process

These rolls don't stack easily due to their size. Instead of stacking them on top of each other, we laid them on their sides in the container, with wooden chocks placed between them to prevent rolling.

Our team loaded 32 rolls into the 40-foot container with about 30 cm of space left at the door. We used cargo straps to secure the last row and placed a wooden frame to keep everything tight. The whole operation took about 3.5 hours, mostly because of the handling time for each heavy roll.

Arrival Confirmation

The distributor in Rotterdam reported that all 32 rolls arrived without visible damage to the wrapping or the mesh surfaces. They moved the rolls to their yard within two days of container unpacking. The thicker wrapping held up well during the journey, and they have since requested similar packaging for their next order.
